SURPLUS Land for sale
The District reviews its land holdings to identify any areas that may not be critical for floodplain management, aquifer recharge, and the protection of surface waters, wetlands, and springs. Such lands are declared surplus and either sold or exchanged on the private market or conveyed to other units of government. The proceeds of any sales and exchanges are dedicated to the acquisition of lands with higher water resource and conservation values.
Buying Land from the District: Things to Know
- Only lands declared as surplus from the Governing Board may be sold or exchanged.
- Florida statute requires that lands be sold at current appraised value or more.
- Lands may be sold with restrictions on land use, divisions of title, septic, and/or dwellings.
- Lands are sold to the highest bidder as part of the public process.
- Only bona fide offers are considered. Sales must be for no less than appraised value.
- Buyer typically pays for the appraisal, survey, and other closing costs.
- The Governing Board must approve all sales.

Submit An Offer
The District will only consider reasonable offers, consistent with market values. If a reasonable offer is received, a Purchase Agreement may be signed and the District will seek appraisals to determine the land value.
