SRWMD readies Coastal Rivers SWIM Plan update,
seeks feedback

LIVE OAK, FLA., JANUARY 23, 2025 – The Suwannee River Water Management District (District) is seeking feedback on its proposed updates to the Coastal Rivers Surface Water Improvement and Management (SWIM) Plan.

In 1987, the Florida legislature passed the SWIM Act which directed water management districts to develop plans to identify degraded surface waters within their regional boundaries and outline plans and programs for the improvement and management of those surface waters.

The Coastal Rivers SWIM Plan includes six priority coastal rivers – the Aucilla, Wacissa, Econfina, Fenholloway, Steinhatchee, and Waccasassa – and includes active and proposed projects which will support strategies for restoration and protection of the priority water bodies.

The proposed plan can be found online on the District’s webpage.

Comments or suggestions for the proposed SWIM Plan can be submitted by email to SWIMComments@srwmd.org by March 28, 2025.

The mission of the Suwannee River Water Management District is to protect and manage water resources using science-based solutions to support natural systems and the needs of the public. Headquartered in Live Oak, Florida, the District serves 15 surrounding north-central Florida counties.
