SRWMD readies SWIM Plan for Suwannee River Basin, seeks feedback on proposed updates

LIVE OAK, FLA., OCTOBER 11, 2023 – The Suwannee River Water Management District is seeking feedback on its proposed updates to the Suwannee River Basin Surface Water Improvement and Management (SWIM) Plan.

In 1987, the Florida legislature passed the SWIM Act which directed water management districts to develop plans to identify degraded surface waters within the regional boundaries and outline plans and programs for the improvement and management of those surface waters.

This plan includes five priority water bodies in the Suwannee River Basin – the Suwannee, Alapaha, Withlacoochee, Santa Fe, and Ichetucknee rivers – and includes active and proposed projects which will support strategies for restoration and protection of the priority water bodies.

The proposed plan can be found online at https://bit.ly/46NB1pD.

Comments or suggestions for the proposed SWIM Plan can be submitted to SWIMComments@srwmd.org by December 4.

The mission of the Suwannee River Water Management District is to protect and manage water resources using science-based solutions to support natural systems and the needs of the public. Headquartered in Live Oak, Florida, the District serves 15 surrounding north-central Florida counties.
