LIVE OAK, FLA., AUGUST 28, 2022 – Out of an abundance of caution, the Suwannee River Water Management District (District) is advising all residents in Northeast Florida to prepare now for potential weather impacts from Hurricane Idalia.
According to the National Weather Service, Hurricane Idalia’s current trek shows the potential for significant impacts to the counties within the District beginning as early as Tuesday afternoon. The storm is expected to bring with it heavy rain, strong winds, and the potential for flooding.
All District lands will close at sundown today (Monday, August 28). Sites will remain closed until further notice.
Currently no river gages are in action or flood stage in the District. District staff will continue to monitor these gages throughout the week, as heavy rainfall predications across the District and into Georgia could bring about localized flooding in low-lying and some riverine areas.
The District advises that all residents begin their preparations now, and ensure:
- If you are near a waterbody or low-lying area, ensure that you have alternate means to enter and exit your property in the event of flooding;
- Move any valuables, including equipment or animals, to higher ground;
- Review real-time rainfall and real-time river and lake levels at the District’s website, www.MySuwanneeRiver.com, located under the Science & Data tab, to help make informed decisions about your area.
The District will continue to closely monitor Hurricane Idalia and its potential impacts to North Florida residents and will continue to provide updates through web notices and social media updates.
