[ARCHIVED] Crist appoints board members to SRWMD

Gov. Charlie Crist has appointed two board members to serve on the Suwannee River Water Management District’s Governing Board.

James “Jay” Fraleigh, of Madison, and Carl Meece, of O’Brien, were appointed to serve a term that will end March 1, 2013. The appointments require confirmation by the Florida Senate.

Both Fraleigh and Meece will serve as at large members. The two replaced John Paul “J.P.” Maultsby, of Madison, and Louis C. Shiver, of Mayo.

Fraleigh has owned and operated a wholesale nursery in Madison for 10 years. He attended Lake City Community College where he received training in landscape design and operation. Fraleigh sat on the board of directors for Madison County Farm Bureau from 2006-08 and currently serves on the Horticulture Advisory Committee for Florida Farm Bureau Federation. He is also a member of the Florida Nursery Growers and Landscape Association.

Meece retired as the vice president of advanced programs at Pratt & Whitney, a company that designs and builds aircraft engines, gas turbines and space propulsion systems. He also served as the vice president of engineering at Swagelok, a company that manufactures fluid system products. Meece attended the University of Florida where he earned a degree in aerospace engineering. Meece is a past member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Gubernatorial appointments to the District’s Governing Board serve four-year terms without compensation.
