[ARCHIVED] GOVERNOR DESANTIS APPOINTS TWO GOVERNING BOARD MEMBERS

LIVE OAK, FLA., May 18, 2021 – The Suwannee River Water Management District (District) welcomes Dr. George Cole, of Monticello, and William Lloyd, of High Springs, to the Governing Board. On May 14, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of the two new board members. Cole will represent the Aucilla River Basin and Lloyd will represent the Santa Fe and Waccasassa River Basin.

“We appreciate the continued support from Governor DeSantis and appointments of Dr. Cole and Mr. Llyod to the District’s Governing Board,” said Hugh Thomas, executive director of the District. “Their background and expertise will provide an important perspective to the Governing Board and mission to protect and preserve the region’s water resources.”

Cole is a former Adjunct Professor at Florida State University and retired United States Coast Guard Lieutenant Commander. Previously, he was an engineer with the Florida Department of Transportation and Chief of the Florida Department of Natural Resources’ Bureau of Surveying and Mapping. Cole previously served on the Suwannee River Water Management District Governing Board and is a member of the Aucilla Research Institute Board of Directors. He earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Tulane University and his master’s degree and Ph.D. in geography from Florida State University.  

Lloyd is Vice President of Suwannee Valley Feeds. Previously, he was a manager with Suwannee Valley Feeds and a Dairy Specialist with ADM Alliance Nutrition. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Cornell University. 

These appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
