[ARCHIVED] District Moves Forward With Lafayette County Stormwater Improvement Project

LIVE OAK, FLA., July 11, 2017 –The Suwannee River Water Management District (District) Governing Board recently authorized additional funding for Lafayette County to implement a stormwater improvement project under the District’s Regional Initiative Valuing Environmental Resources (RIVER) Program. The RIVER Program is a cost-share program that assists government entities in implementing projects that align with the District’s mission to protect Florida’s water supply, improve water quality, restore natural systems, and provide flood protection.

In March 2016, Lafayette County was awarded $125,000 for the appraisal and purchase of properties needed to provide stormwater storage to alleviate flooding along County Road 300 in the Roosevelt Circle area. The District Governing Board recently awarded the project an additional $17,550 due to a slight increase in funds needed to obtain the necessary parcels.

This project will consist of a stormwater collection and conveyance system that will discharge into two detention ponds. A piped connection between the two ponds will provide increased stormwater storage and conveyance. Land clearing and construction on this project is expected to begin this month and last until November 2017.
